In addition to Carlo’s numerous concert works, Carlo Dean has regularly
composed music for film, animation, theatre and dance. His interdisciplinary
credits include full orchestra score for The One Second Film, directed
by Nirvan Mullick and produced by Spike Jonze, Christina Ricci, Tom Arnold, Selma Blair, Bill Pullman
and others (set to premiere in Hollywood in Spring 2006), 43 minute String
Quartet and Harp score for a production of Oscar Wilde’s Salome,
directed by Rachel Goldberg, violin and harp score for Hun Chung’s animation
afterall, and solo viola and solo dancer, commissioned by choreographer
Nazorine Ulysse, recorded by Mark Menzies, viola. He has also worked as an
arranger with pop/rock groups (most recently Saar Hendelman), specializing
in String Quartet.
He recently scored an independent feature-length horror film by filmmaker Jim McMahon called Bloodshed,
should be released sometime in 2005, as well as the theme music for the 2005 COLCOA (City of Lights, City of Angels) French film festival.
Carlo has been playing guitar for over 15 years. As a performer (primarily on jazz guitar),
Carlo has performed throughout
the United States, France, and the United Kingdom. He has been fortunate enough
to play with some jazz greats, including legendary trumpeter Clark Terry,
and trombonist Al Grey, pianist Skip Wilkins, and bassist Paul Rostock. Currently,
Carlo performs in the prolific experimental duo (frequently a trio with Jessica Schaeffer on harp)
jerseyturnpike (where he and Dina Carpenito make use of guitar, voice, wine glasses, saw, electronics,
and other sounds to make pretty music).
Their first full-length CD, permafrost was released on August 1st, 2004.
